Add -s -- plan to print every step and run nothing, verify to only check, rollback --yes to undo. Not run: commands checked against the official docs only. Commands checked against the official docs on 2026-10-15. Not run end to end.

# MCP Servers (official)
> Reference Model Context Protocol servers: memory, git, filesystem and more, ready to plug into any MCP client.
**What:** Standard plug-in tools for agents. **Why:** Gives a local agent hands: files, git and more.
**Stack layer:** tools (model → runtime → harness → memory → tools)
The official collection of reference MCP server implementations. TypeScript servers run via npx, Python servers via uvx or pip.
**Gap role:** Tool use: gives local agents the same standardized tools (files, git, memory, fetch) frontier assistants use.
## Gap Score
null (pending test on Mac Studio)
## Prerequisites
- Node.js (for npx servers)
- uv/uvx (brew install uv) for Python servers
- An MCP-capable client
## Install
### macOS (Apple Silicon)
1. Run:
```bash
brew install node uv
```
2. runs the Memory server (stdio):
```bash
npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-memory
```
3. runs the Git server; or: pip install mcp-server-git && python -m mcp_server_git:
```bash
uvx mcp-server-git
```
## Configure
1. the README's client example uses Claude Desktop; other clients use the same command/args shape:
```bash
# add to your MCP client's config, e.g.
{
"mcpServers": {
"memory": {"command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-memory"]}
}
}
```
## Verify
1. Expect: MCP Inspector opens in your browser and lists the server's tools
```bash
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-memory
```
## Rollback
1. Run:
```bash
# remove the server entry from your MCP client config and restart the client
```
2. Run:
```bash
npm cache clean --force # optional, clears npx downloads
```
## One-command install
Status: docs-checked (Not run: commands checked against the official docs only). The wrapper scripts are generated from the site data. Every .sh passed bash -n and shellcheck and ran in plan mode on Linux (Debian 13). Every .ps1 passed the PowerShell parser and chat.ps1 ran in plan, verify and rollback mode under PowerShell 7 on Linux with Windows calls mocked. Not run on macOS or real Windows.
```bash
curl -fsSL https://insidethemachine.ai/install/mcp-servers.sh | bash # install, then check
curl -fsSL https://insidethemachine.ai/install/mcp-servers.sh | bash -s -- plan # print only
curl -fsSL https://insidethemachine.ai/install/mcp-servers.sh | bash -s -- rollback --yes
```

## Caveats
- Reference servers are examples, not hardened production services; review each server's README.
## Benchmarks
Status: pending test on Mac Studio. Rig: Mac Studio, Apple Silicon, 128GB unified memory. No results published yet.
